New England McDonald’s ad for Newman’s Own Organic coffee?
ByIn the McDonald’s ad running in New England for Newman’s Own organic coffee…the two characters rattle off a string of New England slang terms. I’m new to New England - what are all the local slang terms used in the commercial?
I can’t be sure, but…
1. Blizzard of… ? 78. (There was a large blizzard in 1978).
2. Newyorkachusetts? Connecticut.(the dividing line between the Red Sox and the Yankees).
3. Drinking fountain? Bubbler (a drinking fountain is also known as a bubbler).
4. DOES ANYONE UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION? The answer is ID.
5. Sprinkles or Jimmies? Jimmies (chocolate sprinkles are known as jimmies).
6. 5 inches of snow? Dusting (it snows so much in new england that 5 inches of snow is consider only a dusting).
7. Manhattan chowder? Never heard of it (New engladers are proud of their clam chowder and would never aknowledge some disgusting combination of clam chowder and tomato soup).

The question he’s being asked, where the answer is ID is: " What do you show at a packey. A packey is a liquor store

I am from Vermont (born and raised) and I have never heard a liquor store called a packey. The only "New England" state where I’ve heard it call a package store is Connecticut. Personally nobody I know from VT., NH., or ME. would claim that Connecticut is part of New England. It’s just a suburb of NY.

Pa-hahahah! Matt, you’re wicked dumb. Clearly, if you’ve ever studied history (which I don’t know that you guys have schools up there that teach things other than how to make ice cream at Ben and Jerry’s), Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine were settled last, after Mass., RI, and CT. We are the defining states in New England. And everybody who ever went to college in chusetts, ct, or ri DEFINITELY call it a packey!

Matt I must agree with Katie when she says “Pa-hahahahah!”
I think it’s laughable that someone would try to defend the honor of a state like Vermont aka trailer trash of the New England. Or try to denounce a state like CT and begin to associate itself with NH and ME for that matter. Population 600k? Outnumbered beavers? There are rural towns in CT with more popularity. The greatest thing to come from your neck of the woods is syrup, or the excrement of pine trees. Congrats. Interestingly enough the most defining features of NE are the gorgeous Gold Coast beaches harbors and ports such as Mystic, Newport, Cape Cod, Hampton and Ogunquit. Of course you wouldn’t know that seeing as your local body of water is Lake Champlain… which in terms of US geography is 8,810 square miles short of “Great”. Living in MA and having gone to college in RI, I know many people who use the word packy but I don’t know many ppl who would give 2 sheets if the Canadians decided to forge over that puddle and take over your sorry excuse for a state.

I thought Vermont was part of Canada. JK
I was hoping to find the commercial online to show my friends and family who don’t live in New England. If you have watched it online would you post a link? Thanks
